World-wise Conference 2007: 24th March, Dundee

This year's World-wise conference was designed to provide a perfect taster for any groups or individuals interested in becoming involved with the World-wise project.  Participants included community educators and members of 2006/7 World-wise groups, who took the opportunity to showcase their work.

Excellent speakers led lively participatory sessions on the latest global campaigns:-

  • John Watson of Amnesty Scotland on Justice; local and global
  • Marjorie Clark of Christian Aid on Trade Justice and Europe 
  • Kirstie Shirra on WDM Scotland's Climate Change Campaign
  • Lesley Orr of Scottish women's Aid on Women Trafficking

 Aberdeen and Perth get World-wise

Our 2006-7 pilot groups  met in Aberdeen and Perth.  In both areas we worked with the local Workers Education Association (WEA) and the councils' Community and Adult Learning departments. In Aberdeen the Montgomery Development Education Centre was also part of our team.

Ullapool tops fair trade map

World-wise campaigners in the fishing village of Ullapool, Wester Ross have been successful in making this  favourite holiday hotspot Britain's most northerly Fairtrade Village.
