Scottish Climate March 08

Saturday 6 December

On Saturday, WDM Scotland took part in this year's Scottish climate march calling for tough action in Scotland, the UK and internationally.

Supporters carried WDM's giant aeroplane through the streets of Glasgow, bearing the message "climate change kills" and urged people to support a strong climate change bill in Scotland.

At the march rally, WDM relayed this message from Archibishop Desmond Tutu:

"As an African, I urgently call on ordinary people in rich countries to act as global citizens, not as isolated consumers. We must listen to our consciences and not to governments who speak only about economic markets. These markets will cease to exist if climate change is allowed to develop into climate chaos. In South Africa, we have proved that if we act on the call of justice, we have the power to turn tides. I urge you sisters and brothers to stand together with campaigners in the global South and call for strong climate change laws in your own countries in the north as well as internationally."
