On Saturday, 02 July, hundreds of activists danced the night away at Reson8 - the club night co-organised by the World Development Movement.
The night showcased some of Scotland's finest rising musical talent, featuring raw guitars and killer riffs, catchy melodies and some of the best new song smithery north of the border, finished off by DJs from some of the capital's best loved alternative clubs spinning an exciting mix of punk, indie and northern soul.
Called RESON8!, it was the largest, most anticipated night of entertainment in Edinburgh following the huge Make Poverty History march earlier in the day. The night highlighted issues of social and environmental injustice associated with the G8 and featured five top Scottish bands that have recently sent shivers of excitement across the UK music scene.
Headlining were Edinburgh's very own Indiepop John Peel darlings Ballboy, and Glasgow's legendary fiery rock duo Sluts Of Trust, who have received rave reviews across the board. Also playing were Glasgow based all-girl punk rock power trio We Rock Like Girls Don't, who went down a storm with the crowd; Uncle John and Whitelock played twisted country punk and guttural delta blues with socio-political, curdling rants amidst howling riffs and babbling basslines. RESON8! openers, Degrassi, played their vibrant and intense set to great acclaim.
Afterwards, DJ Bobusan resurrected the punk, indie, new wave mash-up of the capital's much missed cult clubnight DFRNT Drum. Finishing up, DJ Craig Jaimieson of Edinburgh's five year authentic club Modern Lovers mixed up his unique assortment of northern soul, beats and breaks to bring the night to a triumphant finale.
RESON8! was organised by the World Development Movement and People and Planet
